Council Dude Duncan Leads Faction Against Lady Baller Stadium Largesse

Some conservative voters might decry his leftist tendencies . . . But it's hard not to notice this South Side councilman "standing on biz" against generous tax breaks for billionaires even when it comes to political alignment with women's soccer.

However, Council member Johnathan Duncan, 6th District, characterized those possible developments as “high level” and asked for more specific plans, including whether the project would add a grocery store to an area expected to have more housing. He suggested that the lack of details meant the city did not have the full picture. 

“I would love to see a better understanding of what we’re actually getting for our money,” Duncan said. Duncan referenced the lack of a development plan as one reason he voted against the project last week. 

Council members Nathan Willett, 2nd District, and Melissa Patterson Hazley, 3rd District at-large, also opposed the deal. When asked why they opposed the funding agreement, Willett and Patterson Hazley echoed Duncan’s concerns about the absence of a specific development plan.
