Will Apartments Save Oak Park?!?

This development plan is PROBABLY a sign that the local shopping institution is worried about the future.

The bigger question . . .

HOW WILL APARTMENT TRANSITION IMPACT MALL ACCESS?!?

The double edged problem . . .

Limiting outsiders turns away the last remaining shoppers . . . HOWEVER . . . We don't see much demand to live inside a mall with a bunch of strangers walking around.

Here's a preview and more evidence for the death of retail . . . Check-it:

The owners of Oak Park Mall have filed plans with Overland Park outlining a redevelopment of the property.

Documents submitted by CBL Properties show the company is seeking to rezone roughly 89 acres of the mall property as part of the proposal.

The plans include a four-story apartment building with 260 units and two interior courtyards. Amenities would include a pool, seating areas, fire pits, grilling stations and landscaping.

The redevelopment would also include a four-story, 120-room hotel and two new restaurants.
