Shawnee Mission School Board Reconsiders AI After Disastrous Pep Talk

A bit of insider by way of social media conversation . . .

A recent AI speaker at a mandated work session earned EPIC pushback from teachers and administrators wondering how listening to a Swiftie fan influencer would help their classrooms. 

Now . . . The check the policy switcheroo that pretty much admits defeat . . .  

"Just two days before students return to class, the Shawnee Mission School Board has reversed course on a potential classroom ban of artificial intelligence, opting instead to allow older students limited, teacher-guided access.

"The board’s decision Monday night, August 10, marks a sharp turn from discussions in July, when district leadership heavily favored a total ban on generative AI across all district-issued devices. Under the newly unveiled classroom technology plan, middle and high school students will be permitted to use built-in AI tools on district devices, but only under direct teacher supervision."
