Missouri & Kansas Po-Po Turn Into ICE?!?

Not really . . . All of this sausage-y legislation kinda ignores a truism:

Local police are already overworked and have enough to do without playing immigration cop.

Most law enforcement leaders say as much in a far nicer way with respect to the feelings of boomers.

However . . .

Times change and a bad economy for the majority of locals on the low-end always has a way of hyping up immigration crackdowns . . . Because we all need someone to blame when ideology turns into an obvious FAIL.

And, it turns out, Mexicans are much easier to beat up than Iran.

So maybe (or maybe not) this is a preview . . .

In September 2025, the Department of Homeland Security announced new reimbursement opportunities through the One Big Beautiful Bill for state and law enforcement who help ICE arrest and remove illegal immigrants. In what DHS called “supercharged efforts,” state and local law enforcement were encouraged to assist federal immigration officers and are rewarded by their successful efforts.

The One Big Beautiful Bill offers agencies under the Task Force Model funding for new equipment, new vehicles, salaries and overtime. DHS said the goal was to “remove the worst of the worst including murderers, gang members, rapists, terrorists, and pedophiles.”

As of August 2026, there are 95 Missouri agencies -- including the Missouri State Highway Patrol -- with 287(g) agreements. All of the Missouri agencies signed up during President Trump’s second term in the White House, and all of them signed up for the Task Force Model.

Participation from agencies in Kansas in the 287(g) program as a whole isn’t as robust. So far, 36 agencies across the Sunflower State have agreements, including the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.

During the 2026 legislative session, lawmakers in Topeka made it easier for more agencies to join. A law was passed, despite a veto by Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly, allowing sheriffs to sign 287(g) agreements without approval from their county commissions. The law, House Bill 2372, also required municipal insurance pools to extend their liability coverage to local law enforcement agencies that are enforcing federal laws in cooperation with ICE.
