"The City of Edgerton, Kansas, filed a civil lawsuit against Kimberly Twente and Carrie Schmidt to block a citizen-led petition aimed at banning high-impact data centers.
"The city filed the lawsuit in Johnson County District Court, naming Schmidt, Twente, and their nonprofit, Public Trust Collective Inc., as defendants. The legal battle began after the women successfully gathered 208 signatures—more than double the required amount—to force a municipal ballot initiative. Their petition proposes an ordinance to classify data centers as industrial nuisances to preserve city water, electricity, and local property rights. "
