Late into the summer, we notice and uptick in levels of local violence.
What's critical to remember is that this traditional late summer surge in KCMO violence typically doesn't stop until winter weather sets in . . .
Accordingly, here's the report that police shared with local media today along with more reporting:
Homicide 2000 block of Wheeling
This afternoon at 12:45pm officers were dispatched to the apartment complex in the 2000 block of Wheeling on a sound of gunshots call.
On arrival officers were directed to a vehicle in the parking lot there. Indications were consistent with gunfire having taken place there.
Officers located 3 adult males with gunshot injuries. One in the drivers seat, one in the passenger seat and one just outside the vehicle. The one victim in the drivers seat was injured but responsive, the other two victims were unresponsive.
Officers called for EMS who responded and transported the victim from the drivers seat to the hospital in stable condition. EMS declared the other two victims deceased at the scene.
Homicide detectives are at the scene investigating along side of Crime Scene Investigators who are processing the scene for available evidence.
Preliminary investigation indicates the three victims were in or around the vehicle in the parking lot when they had an interaction with one or more suspects that led to gunfire which struck the victim.
If anyone was in this area and heard or saw anything or has any information, and has not yet talked to police, they are asked to contact Homicide detectives directly at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS hotline.
We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.
