Kansas City Staffers Recommend AGAINST Downtown Data Center Tower

A peek at the imposing an inanimate villain that our cowtown deserves right now . . . 

City staff have recommended the plan’s denial, according to the staff report. Staff wrote that the plan does not align with city policies or goals to increase downtown population and would have a negative effect on the surrounding neighborhood. 

“Maintaining historic buildings is important to the character and authenticity of the downtown,” staff wrote. “The proposed design of the new building does not fit the scale of the existing neighborhood, and the applicant did not revise plans to make the structure more compatible.”

The proposal is scheduled for a hearing before the City Plan Commission on Aug. 5 on the 26th floor of City Hall, according to the agenda. The commission’s meetings start at 9 a.m., but the data center item will not be discussed before 1 p.m., the agenda says.
