In April of 2025, a former city spokeswoman told FOX4 that the bond payments for KC Live at the Power & Light District were not expected to be paid off until calendar year 2039. On Aug. 18 of this year, City Councilman Johnathan Duncan told leaders he was unclear why the city had to invest $600 million into the $1.9 billion stadium project.
“This is the Power & Light on steroids,” he said at the finance committee meeting that day.
“I hope not,” Bough said in response. “I think we have learned some lessons from the Power & Light. One of those things, not to go get in too much of the technical details, but our debt coverage ratio and when we issue bonds, we are making sure as a city now that we have enough revenue to cover the debt service on the bonds.”
