Kansas City Mayor Q Downplays Lawsuit Targeting MWBE Program

Let's start with context . . . 

Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway filed a federal lawsuit July 22 against Kansas City, arguing the city’s Minority and Women Business Enterprise (MWBE) contracting program unlawfully uses race and sex in awarding public contracts. The suit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri, claims the MWBE ordinance violates the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.

 And then . . .

Reality check, the lawsuit kinda took at hit when the record of the plaintiff as an aggrieved white dude was less than stellar even by admission of people who support the case. Of course everybody deserves a second chance BUT progressive critics have leveraged a bribery & conspiracy conviction. 

However . . . 

It's the official word from city hall that deserves more attention.

Accordingly, here's a quote from Mayor Q that might not have earned enough attention . . .

Mayor Quinton Lucas says the city had already begun reviewing and revising the program months before the lawsuit was filed, arguing the legal action is more about politics than finding a solution.

“All the attorney general did was jump into a culture war because she’s not really interested in a solution long-term; She just wants to be a part of the battle,” Lucas said.
