Kansas City Chiefs QB Mahomes Sits Out Preseason Opener

Fans aren't expecting him back until the start of the season . . . However . . . This injury update after a devastating ACL tear offers a reality check for hopes of a super-human recovery. 

Again . . .

The reality is that any 30-year-old athlete confronting this injury will NEVER return to peak performance. However, that doesn't mean that Mahomes can't evolve, adapt and sharpen so many of his other skills. 

And so . . . Here's the update . . . 

"The Kansas City Chiefs practiced on Thursday for the last time before the first exhibition game against the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday.

"After the lighter, 10-10-10 session of practice, head coach Andy Reid stood at the podium and updated local media on the injury status of a few players.

"He also confirmed that Chiefs starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes will not be playing in Saturday’s game."
