The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office issued a press release Tuesday addressing allegations of improper treatment of detainees at the county’s detention center.
“The Sheriff’s Office takes all allegations seriously,” the release read.
Jackson County authorities said many of the allegations “may have been initiated by detainees who merely want to urge others to bond them out,” but said each complaint is reviewed and investigated to ensure dignity, fairness and respect is given to all inmates.
The Sheriff’s Office said allegations have raised issues with plumbing and facility concerns, access to recreation and tablets, the introduction of illegal drugs and a pair of recent inmate deaths.
