Hernandez Critiques Platt Comeback & KCMO Taxpayer Funding

This local complaint from a longtime local newsman and denizen of 12th & Oak deserves context . . . 

Former Communications Director Chris Hernandez claimed then-City Manager Brian Platt instructed him to lie to the media. A jury ruled against the city, awarding Hernandez nearly a $1 million judgment. With attorney fees, the city settled for $1.4 million.

"So let me get this straight. The out-of-state company (UMH Development) hired the former city manager to represent them before the city government that FIRED him last year because he was so bad at his job? 

How will any city officials believe a word he says when he presents updates on the project (which he’ll need to do to qualify for the $109 million incentive package)? 

"Remember - the lawsuit that got him fired focused on how he was inflating numbers and that he wanted to lie about how he was using tax dollars. (The jury deliberated only one hour after an eight day trial before ruling against the City. The evidence was clear.)

"And how awkward is that going to be when everyone in the room knows that Platt was fired just last year? And why he was fired…. I can’t wait to see how the Port Authority and City Council will handle this ridiculous situation."
