Council Dude Duncan Demands Emergency Repair For Striking Tenants Amid Heat Wave

Tenants at the North Lawn apartment complex in Kansas City’s historic northeast neighborhood say they are still waiting for emergency repairs more than two weeks after the city council passed an ordinance directing the city manager to act immediately — as another dangerous heat wave grips the region.

Councilman Johnathan Duncan, who sponsored the ordinance, said the lack of action is unacceptable.

“This was not a request. This was an emergency ordinance that’s not being treated as an emergency,” Duncan said. “It is a sign of incompetence and a complete utter failure by the city manager.”
