As always, let's start with context . . .
The Prairiefire mixed-use development in Overland Park, Kansas, has faced major financial issues centered around multiple defaults on millions of dollars in state-backed Sales Tax and Revenue (STAR) bonds and community improvement district (CID) bonds due to lower-than-expected sales tax generation.
Prairiefire missed initial and subsequent repayment deadlines on roughly $65 million in state-issued STAR bonds and CID-backed bonds.
State and legislative auditors reported that the development failed to generate sufficient out-of-state tourism and sales tax revenue to pay off the debt within the standard timeline. Projections indicated it could take decades—potentially past the end of the century—to fully retire the bonds.
Accordingly . . . We ask . . .
HOW MANY TIMES WOULD LOCALS WANT TO SEE COLLEGE BASEBALL HIGHLIGHTS?!?
Of course, we share a more optimistic view for balance . . .
The CBF officially opened the country’s first college baseball hall of fame in July at the Museum at Prairiefire (5801 W. 135th Street, Overland Park), where they expect to host more than half a million and maybe as many as two million visitors a year.
