Wrist Slap Misdemeanor Charges Emerge After Lee's Summit Downtown Days Riot

The "teen takeover" season is not yet complete so we can't say this is the worst disappointment of the summer . . . What we know for certain is that the consequences don't seem very harsh despite the long-lasting damage to the community.

The Office of the Juvenile Officer acts as a prosecutor for criminal charges brought against youths. Scott Lauck, a spokesperson for the office, said in an email Thursday that one of the juveniles was charged with two counts of misdemeanor assault, while the other was charged with one count of resisting arrest, also a misdemeanor. The proceedings in those cases are not open to the public, Lauck said.

Three juveniles were referred for diversion services, which are available to first-time, non-violent youths as an alternative to formal prosecution, he said. The details of those cases are also not publicly available.
