Vacant Kansas City Apartments Catch Fire Yet Again

This morning neighbors and first responders confronted a familiar, blighting crisis that has yet to be solved by politicos demanding cash for better housing . . . Here's the aftermath . . . 

Neighbors have complained about recurring fires at the property, saying they can smell smoke inside their homes and worry air quality is getting worse. Neighborhood leaders previously warned the vacant buildings posed a danger, with one saying they feared “somebody is going to have somebody die there.”

Community groups, including the neighborhood council and Neighborhood Legal Services, pursued court action and received a judgment ordering trash cleanup and fencing, but they said a deadline passed without the work being done, the April report said. City officials have said repeated emergency calls to the property are pulling “precious resources” from other needs, and the city’s 311 system showed 36 code violations tied to the complex.
