Translation: Kansas City Mayor Q Denounces ICE Raids En Español

The top local story over the past couple of days has been ICE ramping up immigration enforcement in Kansas City and throughout the metro.

Accordingly . . .

MAYOR Q DEPLOYS HIS IMPRESSIVE SPANISH SKILLZ, DENOUNCES ICE ACTION & OFFERS MIGRANT REASSURANCE EN ESPAÑOL!!!

Agree or disagree, we can't help admire his commitment to the bilingual address that lasts nearly 5 minutes but seems like about 30 . . .

Now, we'll share the words and the clip posted late last night . . .

"While I have heard different reports about raids earlier today, I trust what I saw. Kansas City stands against masked authorities, mass detention, and agents who cause fear and chaos in our community."

And then . . .

To the best of our ability and with help from Google Translate and a great deal of eye-roll strain . . .

Here's an English translation of the Mayor's words:

"At a time when Kansas City has come together to celebrate and share our different cultures, ICE agents are conducting raids in our region and today in Kansas City, pulling our neighbors from their jobs and from the doorsteps of their own homes. Instead of working with Kansas City to make us all safer, President Trump, Secretary Mullins, and ICE are dividing us, putting innocent people in danger, and causing many more to live in fear.

"This week in Houston, an ICE official shot and killed a man named Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. This is what I want every person in Kansas City to know: Every person in this country, and here, has the right to due process, and we continue to work with local lawyers so that people have access to legal representation. You have the right to refuse a search without a warrant. The city's moratorium on mass detention facilities remains in effect today. The requested non-cooperation with immigration enforcement remains in effect today. My commitment and our commitment to protecting the rights of all Kansas City residents has been made public many times, and it stands today. We know what makes cities safe: Housing. Jobs. Education. Responsible law enforcement that people trust—not fear.

"Kansas City welcomes everyone. Not just for a few weeks this summer, but every day. We will continue to do that as long as I am here, and I hope for a long time after. Thank you."
