Formerly one of our favorite local bloggers . . . Here's a worthwhile local take from Dan on the legacy of so many developer schemes:
Other cities save monuments to their greatest accomplishments. They preserve battlefields, courthouses, historic homes and statues of people sitting confidently on horses. We have some of those, and they’re nice, but not big-time attention-getters.
Kansas City has a unique opportunity to create a monument to getting most of the way through something and deciding That Oughta Be Good Enough. Actually, we don’t even have to create it - we just have to accept what has been given to us. (Technically, given to St. Luke’s, but they’ve put in so much effort tearing down buildings around here that they might let this one stick around.)
We should leave the elevator tower exactly where it is, rising from the rubble as a tribute to stopping just short of completion. Perhaps we could add a tasteful bronze plaque:
WE GOT MOST OF IT
