KCPD First Lady Chief Retires

This is probably the top mainstream Kansas City story of the day but only because we're in the doldrums of Summer. 

Personally, we always liked KCPD Chief Stacey Graves more than most po-po given her experience in coms which gave her the ability to outsmart most media by way of icing them out.

Local activist & urban newsies attempted to make a villain out of her but their efforts never really garnered much traction.   

She caught a break by taking the helm after historic violence and cultural upheaval plagued KCMO during the BLM/COVID-era and her tenure seemed calm by comparison. 

More than anything we're interested in how locals REALLY see her tenure. 

Here's the official word . . .  

"The Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) announced Police Chief Stacey Graves’ intention to retire from the department after 29 years of service."

“After careful consideration and prayer, I have made the decision to retire,” Graves said. “This is a bittersweet decision for me, because I love this department, the men and women of the KCPD, and the community in which we serve. I am thankful for the support of all our community partners and stakeholders. It has been the honor of my life serving in the capacity of Chief of Police.”

Graves has served as the department’s permanent chief through major events impacting the Kansas City community, such as the 2024 Kansas City Chiefs parade shooting where one woman was killed and more than 20 other people were injured . . .
