Context . . .
"Patrick Mahomes suffered a torn ACL and a torn LCL in his left knee during a loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. He underwent successful surgery in Dallas with Dr. Dan Cooper and immediately began his rehabilitation. He is currently on schedule to return for the start of the season."
Amid talk of a comeback, here's what we want to emphasize . . .
Anybody who knows ANYTHING about sports or life understands that Mahomes will NEVER return to peak performance BUT there's a chance that he could EVOLVE into a different kind of QB and develop other skills beyond scrambling and running from broken plays. If anything, this will be a real test of his leadership and field management skills because there's no future in having a QB that's also the leading rusher.
Moreover . . . The leadership competency that Mahomes might sharpen could take him to even greater heights long after his football career is over.
Here's a more pedestrian view that's still worth a peek . . .
"Patrick Mahomes strikes me as the kind of guy who wouldn’t miss Week 1 even if he should.
"Whether he’ll be 100 percent healed from his late-season knee injury remains to be seen, and may not be known until the final few days of the offseason. Report after report after report says Mahomes is well ahead of schedule and confident he’ll suit up for Week 1 against the Broncos. There is a difference, as the football knower knows, between a quarterback who is able to play and a quarterback who is fully back from a major medical setback."
