Here's How NKC Homeless Camping Ban Could Backfire

For the record . . .

The Supreme Court has ruled this kind of bans are legal.  

However . . .

Insiders tell us something fun that's in the works by way of cross-town rivalry . . .

Moving forward, this de facto homeless ban might be used to demand/require and shame NKC into providing more cash to homeless resources.

Consider . . .

For decades, JoCo policy was similar to NKC . . . They wanted to live in a world where they could just tell their problems to move along and pass the dilemma along to other municipalities. 

Like the dirty cop from Rambo, NKC might imagine they can just send their problems across the bridge but that strategy isn't realistic in an era where the worsening U.S. housing crisis dominates national conversation. 

And so . . . 

The flex against the less fortunate might only spark more even more focused efforts to advocate for a more compassionate approach from small town politicos who don't have much leverage against the electorate and can only garner temporary satisfaction from meanie online comments.

"Just hours before North Kansas City’s temporary camping ban for the World Cup was set to expire Tuesday evening, the City Council approved a permanent ordinance aimed at preventing people from sleeping on public property. 

The new ordinance is part of a larger effort in North Kansas City to combat homelessness by preventing large encampments to form on city-owned property, expanding services available to those who are experiencing homelessness and teaming up with outside sources to find new solutions."
