We've shared a few posts on this topic and now we notice activist opposition trending.
Here's an important note buried in a recent report . . .
Sunrise Movement Kansas City and KC Data Center Watchdog have teamed up to inform the community about the project.
KC Data Center Watchdog pushed the City Council earlier this year to adopt stricter zoning codes for data centers.
“It is often the case that data center harms largely outweigh any benefits the community may see from such development. The tech corporations, utilities companies, and developers make a profit off of data centers, while residents face rate hikes, noise pollution, air pollution, and an overall decrease in their quality of life,” said Brooke Bowlin with Sunrise Movement Kansas City.
Sunrise KC and KC Data Center Watchdogs are hosting an informational session on July 18th from 1-3 p.m. at the Westport Library to inform the community about the development and how to participate in the public process.
“We want them to know that KC is not a playground for big tech or developers. KC belongs to its people. Their efforts to try and placate us with false promises of jobs, of ‘a cleaner data center model’ will be met with a resounding no,” said Bowlin. “What gets built in Kansas City should serve Kansas Citians.”
