Worsening Deadly Kansas City Violence Triggers Westport Worries

A recent deadly double shooting inside a Kansas City convenience store has sparked crowing concern amongst midtown neighbors about the future of their neighborhood and the impact that a fading entertainment district will have on their community.

The main question . . .

ARE WESTPORT PARTY CROWDS ENDANGERING NEARBY MIDTOWN KANSAS CITY NEIGHBORHOODS?!?

Spoiler Alert . . . Of course the answer is YES but here's an important perspective sent our way about the past, present and future of this town's oldest party place and the surrounding community . . .

Check-it:

Here's what's insidious about the double murder inside the QT . . . It wasn't after hours, it wasn't late in the evening. 11:30 PM is a totally reasonable time to make a stop at convenience store. And there's already an armed guard on the premises. This fatal gun battle is a just another sign that Westport night life isn't sustainable and efforts to keep thugs out of clubs have just moved the problem to the doorstep of neighbors.

Are we now supposed to require metal detectors to buy a soda and snacks after dark in Kansas City???

So far we haven't heard much of anything from Westport business leaders or elected officials in KCMO.

There's also a great deal of fear that QT might shut down and leave a giant void in the neighborhood.

I can't say I would blame them. You can't have people getting gunned down inside your store every weekend and risking the lives of customers and staff. It's just an unsustainable situation and, frankly, I'm concerned about the silence on the topic so I hope your readers might share some concern because the oldest party district in KC is obviously in danger and now the risk is threatening homeowners and businesses further down the road.
