A recent news story reminds us that not everybody understands simple economics or rising costs of security that would make some po'dunk festival even more unprofitable . . .

We admire the sense of civic pride and the futile struggle to prevent the inescapable and deliberate destruction of American public spaces outside of closely surveilled social media.

His friend spent 36 hours in the intensive care unit recovering from her injuries.
Despite what happened, he said he does not believe the actions of a group of unruly teenagers should end a community tradition that has lasted decades.
"We don't want to end that, we don't want to just say, cancel it all because there's some teenagers that are unruly," he said.
He believes there are several ways organizers could improve safety if the festival were to return, including prohibiting unaccompanied minors, charging an admission fee, adding metal detectors and shortening operating hours.
