Consider . . .
Parking probs, traffic calming schemes and high rent hipster luxury trends have garnered fierce complaints from longtime river market denizens but no real help from 12th & Oak.
In fact . . .
The streetcar seems to surround the City Market like a noose with very few people taking the time to enjoy the venues and mostly treating the tour like an amusement car ride or just the most expensive lady soccer tram in the world.
Meanwhile in the Golden Ghetto . . .
Forgive us but the suburban farmer's market just seems like a nicer experience with better parking and vibes.
And so we ask . . .
WILL KANSAS CITY'S RIVER MARKET SURVIVE WHEN BETTER ALTERNATIVES ABOUND?!?
Here are more deets to better inform any discussion . . .
"The $34 million redevelopment project was approved two years ago by Overland Park leaders, with the goal of making one of the country’s best farmers markets even better.
"The transformation of the clock tower landing space includes a new farmers market pavilion, permanent shade structures in the outdoor areas, additional seating, expanded restrooms and better storm drains.
"Approximately 90 vendors participate in the market, selling fresh produce such as tomatoes, watermelon, lettuce and other vegetables. The market operates every Wednesday and Saturday morning, with sales beginning at 7:30 a.m."
