We encourage a bit of skepticism here . . . First off, it's not really a big that a sign for a company that no longer exists is gonna stay dark.
For those who don't remember . . . After decades of selling auto parts, tools, and hardware, the iconic Western Auto brand was absorbed by Advance Auto Parts in 1998, with the last remaining licensed operations fully shutting down.
More to the point . . .
It seems that simply flipping a switch might be a very easy way to generate hype during the World Cup doldrums when it finally becomes clear that the American Midwest doesn't love Messi as much as they thought we would.

"The legendary Western Auto sign, which has illuminated the downtown skyline since April 1952, will not be relit in time for the 2026 FIFA World Cup despite months of negotiations and a newly finalized agreement aimed at bringing it back to life.
"The development comes as Kansas City prepares to welcome the world later this month, with millions expected to see the city showcased on television screens across the globe.
"City leaders confirm a deal has finally been reached to restore the beloved sign. However, after negotiations that began nearly a year ago, the timeline has run out."
