Missouri Senator Hawley Earns Assurances For MLB Pride Night Protest

Major League Baseball has assured Missouri Senator Josh Hawley that San Francisco Giants players who wrote Bible verses on Pride Night-themed caps will not be punished, following pressure from lawmakers, including Hawley and Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway over what they called a threat to players’ religious freedom.

Hawley announced Monday that MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred had responded to his concerns and said that the players would not be fined or otherwise punished.

“MLB Commissioner writes to me and admits they were wrong to threaten the Giants players over Bible verses and promises never to fine or discipline these players — or any players for their religious beliefs,” Hawley wrote on X.
