Lee's Summit Scraps Downtown Days After 'Youth Violence' Chaos

For better and worse, this blog has more mainstream reach than all of those silly social media groups inhabited mostly by very angry Kansas City metro senior citizens who have been incited by bots AND SO we're forced to communicate by way of metaphor.

Don't quote us on it . . . And in order to explain our post title quotations . . .

But we all know this isn't REALLY a discussion about "youth violence" after all. 

 Still . . .

A very significant part of this blog is about appreciation of the written word and local documentation in all of its silly forms and so we CHALLENGE TKC READERS TO INDULGE IN GRANDILOQUENT DISCOURSE IF ONLY BECAUSE CRUDE ONLINE RANTS ONLY SERVE TO EXACERBATE THE QUOTIENT OF HOSTILITY IN THE WORLD!!!

Put simply . . .

So many of you d-bags would gladly run this blog into the ground with n-bombs and the r-word in much the same way that Twitter/X is now an irrelevant sewer . . . So demanding an "elite" level of discourse isn't so much to ask if only because online diatribes aren't really that interesting and it's also no great burden for readers to share their opinions without sounding like some street corner hobo.  

But I digress . . . 

The real question . . . 

WAS THERE ANY ALTERNATIVE TO LEE'S SUMMIT CANCELLING DOWNTOWN DAYS?!?

Or maybe all of this is just one more story filed into the "This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things" circular file.

The Board of Directors of Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street penned a message Tuesday announcing the discontinuation of Downtown Days, citing safety and security issues in recent years.

“With heavy hearts, we have made the decision that the 2026 Downtown Days festival will be our last,” the board wrote. “The safety of our community, small businesses, partners, volunteers, and attendees comes first.”

Despite efforts to increase security and make changes, the board said it was “not enough to prevent what happened Saturday evening at Downtown Days.”
