KC Mayor Q & Council Double Down On Conversion Therapy Ban

To start, we notice activist Justice Horn making a relevant point after he helped to launch a protest that sought to ban officials from upcoming Pride month festivities . . .

"The Mayor argued that the conversion therapy ban had to be abolished—now he’s celebrating its return. But let’s be honest: without the backlash, petition, and public pressure, this issue would have been swept under the rug. 🧹"

From the opposite side . . .

We talked about this issue with conservative opinion leader Pete Mundo and he, justifiably, seems to think that KCMO is simply setting itself up for legal battles.

Here's the word for today and more info . . .

"The Kansas City Council will consider an ordinance “banning therapeutic practices that increase the risk of suicide, self-harm and depression, particularly among LGBTQ youth.”

"Mayor Quinton Lucas and 6th District Councilman Johnathan Duncan introduced the measure, which would prohibit anyone from providing dangerous and life-threatening therapeutic practices in exchange for compensation.

"The new ordinance replaces a previous measure invalidated by the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent decision in Chiles v. Salazar, which threatened conversion therapy bans around the country, the mayor’s office stated. Kansas City continues to litigate its original ordinance in court."
