Kansas City Star Columnist Suggests Locals 'Embrace' Violence

About a half a dozen of our most loyal TKC readers helpfully suggested that we pull a recent clip from a local news talk show.

First, we think there needs to be context . . .

The quote comes from MarĂ¡ Rose Williams, a senior opinion columnist and longtime journalist for The Kansas City Star. In her nearly three-decade tenure at the publication, she has served as an education reporter, assistant managing editor for race and equity, and an editorial board member.

Moreover, she was recently inducted into the Missouri Press Association Hall Of Fame.

Her words have sparked outcry from local news readers and we wanted to present the quote without too much prelude . . . Here's the segment that we think sparked criticism . . .

"Kansas City is a violent city and we just need to embrace that. I mean, we have a shooting like every day in Kansas City.

"So that's not I mean, why would we think that?

"Just because the world is in Kansas City, all of a sudden everything around Kansas City is going to change. It's not."

And so we ask . . .

IS SHE RIGHT??? SHOULD KANSAS CITY LEARN TO "EMBRACE" LOCAL VIOLENCE EVEN DURING WORLD CUP CELEBRATION?!?

We can probably guess the answer but the framing from a celebrated local scribe deserves attention nevetheless.

You decide . . .
