A glimpse at the future poses a more interesting question than what a former dead-tree hack comes up with . . .
Given that the Internets is now mostly comprised of bots . . .
Is there anything wrong with more AI content during this era of tech self-cannibalization?!?
If the bots are simply writing articles for themselves . . . Maybe humans shouldn't be so concerned???
The only problem is that very real people are trying to make a profit from it all and that's unlikely in this tech scheme that's infinitely scalable.
Meanwhile . . .
The punchline to for this discussion might be that it was started by two HIGHLY RESPECT LOCAL JOURNALISTS who no longer work for the newspaper and struggle to find an online audience of their own.
Check-it . . .
My friend and former Kansas City Star colleague Barb Shelly posted a disturbing story on Facebook a couple of days ago reporting that McClatchy, the owner of The Star, the Miami Herald, and 27 other newspapers, is telling the company’s journalists to accept AI or face ruin.
Straight Arrow News, or SAN, recounted that at a contentious virtual town hall meeting last month, McClatchy executives “touted a flood of AI-generated content as a key to solving their business woes—and pleaded with skeptical journalists to get on board.”
“Taken together, the executives’ comments appeared to be a threat: Embrace AI or face consequences,” SAN reported.
This is just the latest crackpot idea floated by McClatchy executives to staunch the hemorrhaging of readers and revenue.
