Kansas City Royals Halter Top Day is one of the team's most infamous historical promotions. Originating in the summer of 1976, the club gave away logoed halter tops to all female fans 15 and older. The promotion captured the uninhibited spirit of the mid-70s, with many fans actually changing into their new halter tops right in the stands.
The original 1976 promotion was highly successful and drew massive crowds—including one of the largest home turnouts in Royals history on June 27 against the California Angels. The promotion has since earned a legendary status among baseball fans and historians.
Over the years, the Royals have playfully tipped their caps to the nostalgic event by reviving similar summer-themed apparel giveaways, such as the 2023 promotional days that handed out modern apparel (including men's ringer tees and women's tops).
