Kansas City Pride is a faboosh event filled with fun and a great deal of confusion . . .
Earlier this morning Pride issued a statement UNINVITING MAYOR Q from Pride festivities and making a bold statement against the recent KCMO conversion therapy ban repeal at city hall.
Accordingly . . .
Activists Justice Horn offered this bit of celebration . . .
We did it! This is a moment for us to remember that when we stand together as a community, we stand in the legacy of those who fought for Pride to mean more than rainbow merchandise and politicians standing besides us to party, but not in solidarity when it matters most. ✊🏽
However . . .
READ CLOSELY, KC PRIDE BACKED OFF THE MOVE TO SNUB MAYOR Q AND PERFORMED A DIVA-LIKE DOUBLE TAKE!!!
Here's a peek at their turnabout . . .
"We messed up on that last post. Here's what happened; things have changed over the last two weeks with all the conversations we've had, and we posted the wrong draft. We are human, after all and we've been doing the work in our community.
"The following is the intended statement . . ."
Read the whole thing by way of the links, here's the best snippet . . .
“There are people in this space whose entire track record is the grandstanding, not the follow-through, just the noise,” organizers stated. “When the organizations don’t move on their timeline, the pressure campaigns start. That is power and control, not advocacy, and our community deserves to call it what it is.”
"Our Spot KC (PRIDE Organizers) said it is working with the LGBTQ+ Commission, the Mayor’s Office, legal teams, community members and council members to get the replacement language right."
It seems like they had somebody in particular in mind with that last post which is more politic but has created a great deal of confusion in the local LGBT community.
Either way . . .
Don't expect much much clarity from Pride amid today's party and we won't be surprised to see Mayor Q dancing in the streets again.
