Kansas City Democratic Socialism Trending: HasanAbi Interviews Hartzell

To start . . .

For more than a week Democratic Socialism has been a hot button issue on social media and across most of American political discourse but only a few hacks are playing cheerleader on the topic whilst local news pretends the trend doesn't exist.

Here at TKC was try to offer a more balanced view or at least present some of the latest local developments to our readers.

Accordingly . . .

HASSAN PIKER INTERVIEWING HARTZELL GRAY GARNERS CELEBRATION FROM MANY LOCAL PROGRESSIVES!!!

We'll start with background . . . For those who don't know . . .

Hasan Piker, known online as HasanAbi, is a wildly popular Twitch streamer and political commentator who identifies as a democratic socialist. He rose to fame hosting for the progressive network The Young Turks before building a massive, multi-million dollar streaming empire. Today, he uses his platform to critique American capitalism, champion social justice, and rally support for progressive politicians like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. While he is a leading voice for the American Left, his fierce anti-imperialist rhetoric and controversial stances on international conflicts make him a deeply polarizing figure.

Meanwhile . . .

Hartzell Gray is a former Kansas City radio jock and presenter who blew up his promising career with a series of anti-Israel tirades and political work with KC Tenants that attacked taxpayer subsidy enjoyed by his former employers. Right now his best hope of returning to the limelight is a long-shot Congressional run.

 And so  . . . Here's the overview that deserve attention . . .

For more than an hour Hassan and Hartzell exchange Democratic Socialist pleasantries and talking points in a friendly conversation that might not win an election but certainly garners some local street cred amongst the progressive NextGen.

A few things . . .

No denying it . . .

This power move makes Hartzell the king of the local DSA followers which probably doesn't pay as much as his former radio gig.

We still have a hard time believing that either KCMO or an entire Missouri congressional district will embrace socialism. In fact, as we noted previously, this move signals that Missouri Dems were NEVER serious about making midterm gains and they're throwing another election cycle down the toilet rather than talking real issues like healthcare, education and residential property tax reform . . . And on all of these topics the Missouri GOP is outmatched with a record that makes even the most loyal conservative cringe.

Finally . . . Social media politics is great at taking credit for local victories but it's fair to question so many dark money efforts that don't really seem to exist outside of carefully coordinated publicity stunts and spammy phone app efforts.

Again . . . Either way . . . We don't have to agree in order to take notice.
