Example: KCUR Hopes Nextgen Reports Lure Donors & Audience

This report is dumb but that's not why we're sharing it . . .

We want locals to check the plan of this local media organization that many hoped would replace The Kansas City Star. Sadly, after taxpayer funding cuts, that dream remains elusive.  

Take a quick peek at the website or their socials . . . 

KCUR puts college newsies front and center with progressive talking points and free tote bag posturing that kinda stinks of self-importance. 

To be fair . . . KCUR remains part of UMKC and there's noting wrong with encouraging young newsies. 

However . . . 

Life has taught this increasingly old school blogger that there are plenty of people out there eager to teach you the WRONG lesson. So we can't help but ask if this "training" don't accurately prepare college students for the news game and instead works more to the benefit of the struggling "public" news outlet. 

Don't get it twisted . . . Beyond a sardonic "learn to code" reply . . . TKC doesn't have any encouraging advice for journalists in training.

But we're not sure if social media "stardom" is the right gamble young people fighting for a place an industry that's obviously fading.  

And so . . .

We present a bit of soccer naval gazing that kinda confirms our thesis . . .
