Today we take a peek at yet another bold statement as Summer is just getting started.
To wit . . .
After constant car break-ins, theft & property damage over the past few years . . . Downtown cheerleaders declare victory in the River Market.
A quick recap of the trouble . . .
Betty Rae’s Ice Cream: The popular River Market ice cream shop was targeted twice in a single month in late 2024, with a thief shattering glass doors to steal safes full of cash.
Let's not forget that one of the safe thieves was 78-years-old and earned a 7-year sentence for his crime.
Also . . .
Donutology: Suspects broke into this donut shop, causing property damage and making off with a safe.
Condominium & Apartment Garages: Secure residential complexes like the Bridgeworks lofts have also experienced break-ins, leading some fed-up residents to move out of Kansas City entirely over safety frustrations.
And so . . . Here's a bit of reassurance amid a litany of bad press over the years . . .
"Improving safety remains the number one priority among residents, business owners, and employees in the River Market. In response, the River Market Community Improvement District (RMCID) Safety Program is continuing its expanded security initiative, launched in January 2025, to provide additional overnight security presence throughout the neighborhood.
And it’s working. In a year over year comparison, crime in the River Market has been reduced by 37% from 2024 through the end of 2025."
