Should Kansas City Blame Prez Trump For World Cup FAIL?!?

This week's great, big, beautiful bit of local discourse . . .

KANSAS CITY BLAMES MAGA FOR IMPENDING WORLD CUP FAIL DESPITE EPIC LOCAL PROMISES!!! 

Funny, nobody can remember the Prez pushing Mayor & Council and so many other muni-leaders making this the centerpiece of their campaigns and so much local hype.

However . . . Behind the newspaper paywall that's easily jump-able by way of library card or online archive . . . Here's the money line pointing an accusatory finger at the Prez for documented lack of demand ahead of the World Cup in KC . . .   

"Hotel operators here point to two culprits: visa barriers and weak international demand. Ask yourself: Would you post a $15,000 bond to attend a World Cup match in Europe or Asia? That is what President Donald Trump is imposing on travelers from certain countries — including Tunisia and Algeria, two nations actually playing matches in Kansas City. It’s not hard to understand how a policy like that would reduce turnout." 

Thankfully, our readers noticed a retort by way of policy expert Patrick Tuohey . . . 

"Recent pieces by @davidhudnall on the a World Cup are valuable. 

"But they come too late. As I wrote in January, the claims by boosters were reported without verification. Millions of taxpayer dollars were spent on demonstrably specious claims. 

"Hudnall's piece suggests that World Cup boosters are going to blame Trump for failing to meet projections. Don't let them. Their projections have always been BS." 

More to the point . . .
