Clone cards are counterfeit payment cards created using skimming devices - illegal tools attached to card readers that steal data from legitimate cards.

He added that the stolen data is then encoded onto blank cards, which can be used to make fraudulent purchases.

During a vehicle search, KCPD said officers found multiple blank credit and gift cards with handwritten numbers and black tape covering chip areas - consistent with clone card activity.
