Mayor Q Shares Disappointment & Concern Over Homeless Crisis He Helped Create

Context that locals shouldn't forget . . .

One of Mayor Q's first actions as city hall honcho was an ill-advised Emergency Hotel Program in 2021 that sparked a wave of questionable policy in hopes of addressing homelessness.

The city covered roughly 500 hotel rooms for 90 days in 2021 to support those in homeless encampments. This program was part of an effort to offer stable housing and services to residents of camps at City Hall and Westport.

Eventually the homeless residents were forced to move out with very little lasting benefit of the costly program.

And now . . .

This very same kind of "infrastructure" crafted by Mayor Q is crumbling in real-time as cash runs out.

"I am disappointed to learn of the recent resignations of the board president, vice president, and secretary of Kansas City's federally-designated federal homeless funding organization, the Greater Kansas City Coalition to End Homelessness.  That does not happen every day.  The entity, not under the direct oversight of Kansas City, receives $19M per year to distribute funding to organizations combatting homelessness in Jackson and Wyandotte Counties.

"I am further troubled by concerns raised by departing board members of conflicts of interest, inconsistencies, and compliance issues in funding allocations.  If true, they're completely unacceptable."
