KCPD Investigate Highway Homicide

Deadly early morning gunfire shuts down an east side highway and slows the early morning commute as this year's homicide count slows catches up to last year's pace . . . Here is the report that police are sharing with local media . . . 

Homicide Gregory and I-435

This morning, just before 1:00 AM, patrol officers were dispatched to Gregory and I-435 on a reported shooting. 

As officers arrived they located a vehicle off the roadway on southbound I-435, just to the south of Gregory. Inside the vehicle was an adult male victim suffering from a life threatening gunshot wound. Officers began performing lifesaving measures and KCFD EMS simultaneously responded. Medics took over medical care and transported the victim to a local hospital. A short time later hospital personnel declared the victim deceased. 

This is being investigated as a homicide and no one is in custody at this point. Detectives are working to determine what led up to the shooting and the victim being struck. Investigators and crime scene personnel are on scene canvassing for witnesses, surveillance footage, and physical evidence.
