Kansas City Repeals Controversial Conversion Therapy Ban

Based on our reading . . . 

So-called "conversion therapy" is mostly junk pseudoscience that's tantamount to psychological torture for many youngsters. Testimony from so many who have been forced to endure the practice reveals that it has damaged far more people than it has helped. 

However . . .  

KCMO legislation was clunky and deserved to be challenged . . . Municipalities probably shouldn't be in the biz of regulating religious practices even when they're dangerously disguised as psychiatric clinical endeavors . . . Which is about the most generous description of forced conversion that we can offer.

While it might be frustrating for politicos . . . The reality is that regulating the callous family life that some people are forced to endure isn't part of their job description when outright abuse isn't the case.

"City Council members on Thursday repealed a ban on the controversial practice that was first approved in 2019. The split decision comes after a group of Christian counselors and Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey sued the city.

"Licensed professionals will once again be allowed to perform so-called conversion therapy on minors, after the Kansas City council repealed a previous ban on Thursday."
