Kansas City Remembers Ruskin Heights Tornado 69 Years Later

As we move from Wayback Wednesday to Throwback Thursday . . . For late night readers, insomniacs and early birds . . . We take a brief moment to remember long ago events that have shaped us over the years as locals continue to honor our Kansas City past . . . Check-it: 

"On the evening of May 20, 1957, an F5 tornado touched down southwest of Kansas City and traveled a distance of 71 miles, according to the National Weather Service.

"It claimed 44 lives and left over 500 people injured . . . The Ruskin Heights Homes Association recently rededicated a memorial near 111th Street and Blue Ridge Boulevard to the victims in Ottawa and Spring Hill, Kansas, Martin City, Grandview, Knob Town, Hickman Mills and Ruskin Heights."
