Kansas City Grocery Store 'Membership' Confronts Resistance

Last year the shutdown of a Kansas City taxpayer-funded grocery store garnered shameful headlines across the nation. This month the store reopened to a great deal of political and neighborhood jubilation. However . . . It seems there's already trouble with the new plan. 

INSIDERS REVEAL RESISTANCE TO THE MEMBERSHIP MODEL & GROWING RESENTMENT OVER ID CHECKS!!!

Some of the complaints seem legit as the grocery store doesn't have the same access to CostCo level software that simply reads a membership card without customers losing their stride. 

However . . . 

Like it or not, amid social media complaints and customer dissatisfaction . . . Insiders tell us the system might not last long. 

Bright side . . .

We haven't heard as much about parking lot trouble this time around and reports of theft have dramatically declined thanks to the new system.   

Still . . . 

Here's the word and a sneak peek at what will likely be an election season issue . . . 

"We're seeing more complaints about the membership model on Prospect and some customers believe it's an unnecessary step. There's growing resentment from social media leaders and activists and it's just a matter of time before a council member gives into pressure in order to remove the membership model. 

"And then we're back at square one."

Fox4KC: Owners claim a membership creates a sense of ownership in the store, much like a Costco. The membership-only idea is part of an effort to increase safety. The membership is free. KCMO has invested an additional $1.5 MILLION in the site and the city owns the building.
