Kansas City 2026 Homicide #47: Victim Shot Dead At Apt. Building

Tonight police investigate the 3rd Kansas City, Missouri homicide in less than 48 hours as the unofficial start of summer starts with a notable uptick in deadly local violence. 

Here's the report that KCPD are sharing with local media . . .  

Homicide 9300 block of Newton

Tonight at 9:45 pm officers were dispatched to an apartment in the 9300 block of Newton on a shooting call. 

On arrival officers were led inside an apartment building to an apartment unit there.

Inside the apartment unit they located an adult male shooting victim unresponsive.

Officers rendered aid until EMS arrived and took over treatment. EMS transported the victim to the hospital where he was declared deceased a short time later.

Responding officers detained one subject of interest at the scene for further investigation. 

Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Investigators have responded to the scene and began conducting a homicide investigation. Detectives are talking to people that were at the scene when officers arrived and crime scene investigators are processing the scene for evidence. 

Preliminary investigation indicates the victim and at least one other subject of interest were inside the apartment when the victim was shot. 

If anyone was in this area of the apartment and heard or saw anything or has any information, and has not yet talked to police, they are asked to contact Homicide detectives directly at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS hotline.
