Jackson County Moves Jail Prisoners To New Detention Center

Jackson County successfully moved over 1,000 detainees to its new detention facility. The relocation began on Friday, May 8, 2026, starting at 3:00 a.m.

Detainees Now Housed at Jackson County’s New Modern Detention 

Jackson County, MO – All individuals previously housed at the Jackson County Detention Center, located at 1300 Cherry, have been successfully relocated to the new, state-of-the-art, detention facility, located at 7000 US Highway 40 in Kansas City, MO.
 

The relocation process began on Friday, May 8, 2026, at 3 a.m., led by personnel from Jackson County, MO Sheriff’s Office. With the assistance of staff from Missouri Department of Corrections, after being placed in handcuffs, waist chains, and leg restraints, detainees were securely transported via reinforced vehicles, under the supervision of trained law enforcement personnel.

Upon arrival, detainees were issued new clothing and assigned to designated housing units within the location. Comprehensive services were maintained throughout the transition, including meal provision at both locations and on-site medical staff available to address health-related needs. The operation was carefully coordinated to ensure continuity of care and minimize disruption.

The detention center, fully designed for future expansion, represents a modern approach to incarceration, focusing on integrated support services to create a safe, efficient, and human environment for detainees and staff, while respecting the dignity of over 1000 detained individuals.
