Inside word from the courthouse calls our attention to this upcoming fight . . .
"1st District At-Large is not nearly as exciting as the County Executive's race, BUT Jalen is vulnerable as the incumbent and Justice Horn does not look like he has a serious base of support. Carla Fields has the experience, qualifications, and connections to stand out in this field."
And here are the highlights from her recent campaign announcement . . .
Democrat Carla Fields Launches Campaign for Jackson County Legislature
Carla Fields, a Jackson County attorney and businesswoman, announced that she will begin actively campaigning for the 1st District At-Large seat on the Jackson County Legislature. The Democratic primary election will be held on August 4, 2026. As a member of the Kansas City business community, Fields acknowledged that Jackson County deserves professional leadership at the county level.
“As a life-long Jackson County resident and active member of our community, I’ve been increasingly concerned by the lack of consistent leadership and direction from the current at-large representative,” Fields said. “Over the past few years, it’s become clear that residents are not getting the level of representation or results they deserve. Too often, residents have seen a lack of direction and follow-through which has resulted in missed opportunities and unsolved problems. I decided to run after hearing from many residents who want a more focused, responsive, and professional approach from their 1st District At Large representative.”
Carla Fields is a practicing attorney whose career has spanned 30 years. She is a partner with the firm Fields & Brown, which was established by her father, Taylor Fields. Carla represents the Hickman Mills C-1 School District as General Counsel.
Carla Fields is a past president of the Jackson County Bar Association. She also served as a national delegate to the American Bar Association and a regional director to the National Bar Association. Carla Fields previously served on the board for the National Association of Minority & Women Owned Law Firms, where she was a founding member of the NAMWOLF Pipeline Diversity Committee which awards scholarships to aspiring attorneys.
