This report gained traction today but after more than a year of hype it's clear that local merchants shouldn't expect the windfall they were promised . . . Here's more proof . . .
The American Hotel and Lodging Association released an outlook report for the United States ahead of the World Cup, stating that “hotel demand is tracking below expectations” across most U.S. host markets, despite more than 5 million tickets being sold.
The AHLA report stated that Kansas City has emerged as the most negatively impacted host market in the survey.

Roughly 85-90% of hotel survey respondents reported that the booking pace was below expectations and trailing a typical June or July.
Hotels have a big World Cup problem: Bookings are running far below projections
Nearly 80% of hotels surveyed by a body representing the industry reported bookings were running below projections - a worrisome sign with only weeks to go before the World Cup.
