Tonight's KCPD investigation as, tragically, the weekend didn't end without violence claiming local lives.
Unofficially, this is KCMO homicide #46 compared to 63 at this date on the calendar last year.
Here's the report police are sharing with local media . . .
Homicide 5800 block of Michigan
Tonight just after 6:30pm officer were dispatched to the 5800 block of Michigan on a sound of gunshots call. On arrival officers located an adult male shooting victim, unresponsive near a vehicle in the street, in front of a house on the block.
Officers called for EMS who responded for treatment and transported the victim to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. A short time later officers were notified by hospital personnel the victim was declared deceased from his injuries.
Investigation led officers to a subject of interest at a nearby location, that subject was detained for further investigation without further incident.
Homicide detectives have responded for investigation as well as crime scene investigators for evidence collection and processing.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the victim was at the location in front of the residence along with one or more other people when an argument ensued. That argument escalated and ultimately shots were fired, striking the victim.
Regarding the subject of interest that has been detained, detectives will be working with prosecutors to present all of the available investigative findings for prosecutors' determination of applicable charges.
We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.
