A bit of insight into the archaic Catholic world . . .
Vos estis lux mundi is Latin for "You are the light of the world". It is a phrase from Matthew 5:14, used by Pope Francis as the title of a 2019 motu proprio (apostolic letter) that established new Church laws to combat sexual abuse, protect victims, and ensure accountability for bishops and religious superiors
And here's how it applies to a former, local Catholic school honcho . . .
He isn’t facing any criminal charges, he is still facing an investigation within the Catholic Church, set to end “soon,” according to an Archdiocese spokesperson.
The investigation falls under Church law, including something called Vos estis lux mundi, a relatively new mandate from the late Pope Francis that dictates how the Church should investigate sexual abuse allegations against clergy and lay people with leadership roles.
"Vos estis, to my understanding, is like a tardy mark on your Catholic report card," former student Taylor Kelsey said. "You have to take that with you. That doesn't mean you can't get another job at another diocese, but you do still have to explain it."
