Will Giralda Tower Bells Beckon Customers Back To Country Club Plaza?!?

With an appreciation of history and our scaled down yet still glorious architectural replication . . . The familiar sound seems like a nice touch but given the current state of the economy and American retail . . . The move might echo a death knell for the historic shopping district that still hosts so many vacant storefronts.

According to the Plaza, the carillon bells rang after the tower – a smaller replica the Giralda tower in Seville, Spain – was built at the corner of West 47th Street and Mill Creek Parkway in 1967, and the bells continued through the early 2000s.

The Plaza’s owners, the Gillon Property Group, said that they’re reintroducing the bells as part of “a broader effort to reinvigorate” the shopping and dining district.
